The Help (2011) Directed by Tate Taylor

In 1960s Mississippi, the women who run the households of prominent southern families are black women known as the help. College graduate and reluctant society girl Skeeter (Emma Stone) is determined to become a writer. Her first writing assignment is a housekeeping column, and she turns to her best friend’s housekeeper Aibileen (Viola Davis) for guidance. Her talks with Aibileen inspire Skeeter to chronicle the stories of the black women who dedicate their lives to raising the children who become their bosses. As other women step forward to tell their stories, the small Mississippi town is turned upside down. Based on Kathryn Stockett’s 2009 novel, this film continues our series of films based on books.
