Film - The Shootist Presented by Terry Meehan

It’s 1901 and the Old West is passing into history, and so is J. B. Books (John Wayne), an infamous ex-gunfighter who is dying of cancer. He arrives in Carson City, Nevada and rents a room at a boarding house owned by Bond Rogers (Lauren Bacall). He wants nothing more than to spend the rest of his days in peace. But peace is not to be the fate of a gunfighter like Books, because every ambitious upstart who carries a gun thinks he can outdraw him. This was Wayne’s final film, and Wayne, like his character, was dying of cancer. Terry Meehan continues his series on Revisionist Westerns of the 1970s, introducing each film with an original video, followed by audience reaction and a lively discussion.
